Nasce Concerto Theresia, orchestra professionale sbocco di Theresia Orchestra

Abbiamo incontrato Mario Martinoli, Fondatore e Direttore Artistico di Theresia, che ci ha raccontato gli sviluppi e le ultime novità del progetto Theresia.

Durante lo stop causato dalla pandemia, Fondazione ICONS, organizzazione che sostiene e gestisce l’orchestra, ha iniziato un periodo di valutazione dei sette anni di attività di Theresia e posto nuove basi per le sfide future. Da questo momento di pausa musicale è nata Concerto Theresia, la nuova orchestra professionale formata dagli ex-membri di Theresia Orchestra che negli anni hanno dimostrato bravura, serietà e dedizione.

1. Può dirci brevemente come Theresia Orchestra ha affrontato il periodo di stop e il momento di ripresa causati dall’emergenza Covid?

Come molte altre orchestre Theresia ha dovuto fermare le proprie attività dopo il mese di febbraio e purtroppo siamo anche stati costretti a cancellare diverse residenze e concerti programmati per i mesi successivi. Questo però ci ha consentito di iniziare un periodo di valutazione di quanto fatto in questi sette anni di attività dell’orchestra e porre le basi per nuovi sviluppi e nuove sfide.

2. Quali sono i prossimi progetti di Theresia Orchestra?

Theresia Orchestra riprenderà la sua attività di residenze di alto perfezionamento nel marzo 2021 da dove si era fermata, ovvero con le Ultime Sette Parole di Cristo sulla Croce di Haydn diretto da Chiara Banchini, programma della residenza pasquale del 2020 che siamo stati costretti ad annullare. In generale il 2021 sarà dedicato al recupero di quanto non fatto quest’anno, con una programmazione molto ricca e un’orchestra in parte rinnovata dopo le audizioni che terremo al Mozarteum di Salisburgo nel prossimo febbraio. Ma la vera novità scaturita da questi mesi di riflessione e di silenzio della musica è stata la scelta di ICONS, la Fondazione che sostiene e gestisce il progetto Theresia, di raddoppiare gli sforzi e creare una seconda orchestra, Concerto Theresia, a fianco dell’orchestra di formazione.

3. Che cosa è dunque Concerto Theresia?

Concerto Theresia è l’orchestra degli alumni, gli ex-membri di Theresia Orchestra: chi negli anni passati ha suonato in Theresia Orchestra e ha dimostrato bravura, serietà e dedizione, verrà invitato a suonare con Concerto Theresia in un’ottica non più didattica, ma professionale. Concerto Theresia è di fatto un piccolo ma prezioso sbocco lavorativo per i nostri giovani musicisti, nonché una richiesta che da anni chi ha suonato con noi ci rivolge: la creazione di un’orchestra professionale degli alumni a fianco di quella di alto perfezionamento.

4. Perché nasce Concerto Theresia?

Come detto, il progetto nasce principalmente per rispondere all’esigenza di dare un seguito all’esperienza formativa di Theresia Orchestra, ma crediamo che Concerto Theresia debba anche agire come ambasciatore e promotore delle istanze filantropiche che stanno alla base di Theresia. Mi piace vedere Concerto Theresia come strumento che contribuisce con parte dei ricavi dei suoi concerti al sostegno di Theresia Orchestra; un circolo virtuoso dove gli alumni di Concerto Theresia contribuiscono ad alimentare le borse di studio dei giovani borsisti di Theresia Orchestra, i cui membri a loro volta potranno andare a suonare in Concerto Theresia una volta terminato con successo il loro percorso formativo. Un’idea innovativa, professionalizzante ed affascinante che aggiunge molto valore alla nostra missione di promozione della cultura attraverso i giovani di talento.

5. Cosa vuole realizzare Concerto Theresia? Qual è il suo obiettivo?

L’obiettivo di Concerto Theresia è naturalmente quello di suonare, e di suonare molto! Concerto Theresia farà il suo debutto il prossimo 30 agosto come orchestra di accompagnamento del prestigioso concorso per cantanti Cesti di Innsbruck nell’ambito delle Festwochen der alten Musik, con cui stiamo stabilendo un importante partenariato artistico. Per il seguito stiamo progettando diversi altri programmi con solisti di chiara fama, sia strumentisti che cantanti, che avranno esiti sia discografici che concertistici nel corso del 2021 e del 2022.

6. Cosa significa essere mecenate oggi giorno, dopo l’emergenza sanitaria, e come pensa si possa affrontare il futuro?

Essere mecenati in un momento di grande crisi come oggi significa avere una responsabilità ancora maggiore nei confronti delle nuove generazioni, ed elaborare una crescente consapevolezza dell’importanza che un impiego lungimirante del proprio tempo e delle proprie risorse può avere sul settore culturale. L’intero progetto Theresia con le sue ramificazioni orchestrali si fonda su questa convinzione.

Launch of Concerto Theresia, the professional orchestra for Orchestra Theresia young musicians

We met Mario Martinoli, Founder and Artistic Director of Theresia, who told us about the developments and the latest news of the Theresia project.

During the stop caused by the pandemic, Fondazione ICONS, the organization that supports and manages the orchestra, began a period of evaluation of Theresia’s seven years of activity and laid new foundations for future challenges. This moment of musical pause led to the birth of Concerto Theresia, the new professional orchestra formed by the former members of Theresia Orchestra who over the years have shown skill, seriousness and dedication.

1. Can you briefly tell us how Theresia Orchestra dealt with the stoppage period and the moment of recovery caused by the Covid emergency?

Like many other orchestras Theresia had to stop its activities after February and unfortunately we were also forced to cancel several residencies and concerts scheduled for the following months. This, however, allowed us to begin a period of evaluation of what has been done in these seven years of orchestra activity and lay the foundations for new developments and new challenges.

2. What are Theresia Orchestra’s next projects?

Theresia Orchestra will resume its activity as a high-level residency in March 2021 from where it had stopped, with the Last Seven Words of Our Saviour on the Cross by Haydn conducted by Chiara Banchini, the program of the Easter residence in 2020 that we were forced to cancel. In general 2021 will be dedicated to the recovery of what was not done this year, with a very rich program and an orchestra partly renewed after the auditions that we will hold next February at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. But the real novelty resulting from these months of reflection and silence of music has been the choice of ICONS, the Foundation that supports and manages Theresia project, to redouble its efforts and create a second orchestra, Concerto Theresia, alongside the formation orchestra.

3. What is Concerto Theresia?

Concerto Theresia is the alumni orchestra, the ex-members of Theresia Orchestra: those who in the past years have played in Theresia Orchestra and have shown skill, seriousness and dedication, will be invited to play with Concerto Theresia not in a didactic perspective, but in a professional way. Concerto Theresia is a small but precious work outlet for our young musicians, as well as a request that for years those who have played with us have been addressing us: the creation of a professional alumni orchestra alongside the highly specialized one.

4. Why was Concerto Theresia born?

As said, the project was born mainly to respond to the need to follow up the training experience of Theresia Orchestra, but we believe that Concerto Theresia should also act as an ambassador and promoter of the philanthropic instances that underlie Theresia. I like to see Concerto Theresia as an instrument that contributes part of the proceeds of its concerts to the support of Theresia Orchestra; a virtuous circle where Concerto Theresia alumni contribute to the scholarships of the young Theresia Orchestra scholars, whose members in turn will be able to play in Concerto Theresia once they have successfully completed their training. An innovative, professionalizing and fascinating idea that adds a lot of value to our mission of promoting culture through talented young people. 

5. What does Concerto Theresia want to realize? What is its goal?

The goal of Concerto Theresia is of course to play, and to play a lot! Concerto Theresia will make its debut on August 30th as the accompanying orchestra of the prestigious Innsbruck Cesti Competition in the Festwochen der alten Musik, with which we are establishing an important artistic partnership. For the follow-up we are planning several other programs with well-known soloists, both instrumentalists and singers, which will have both record and concert results during 2021 and 2022. 

6. What does it mean to be a patron today, after the health emergency, and how do you think the sector can face the future?

Being a patron at a time of great crisis like today means having an even greater responsibility towards the new generations, and developing a growing awareness of the importance that a far-sighted use of one’s own time and resources can have on the cultural sector. The entire Theresia project with its orchestral ramifications is based on this conviction.
